"The Updated eBook-only Version of Edgar Award Winning Author Burl Barer's Shocking New York Times Bestseller!"
" ... where for the first time an FBI profiler was allowed to testify and the controversial pre-DNA science of allotyping was presented to a jury."
On March 15th, 1987 police in Anchorage, Alaska arrived at a horrific scene of carnage. In a modest downtown apartment, they found Nancy Newman's brutally beaten corpse sprawled across her bed. In other rooms were the bodies of her eight-year-old daughter, Melissa, and her three-year-old, Angie, whose throat was slit from ear to ear. Both Nancy and Melissa had been sexually assaulted.
After an intense investigation, the police narrowed the principle suspect down to 23-year-old Kirby Anthoney a troubled drifter who had turned to his uncle, Nancy's husband John, for help and a place to stay. Little did John know that the nephew he took in was a murderous sociopath capable of slaughtering his beloved family.
This true story, shocking and tragic, stunned Anchorage's residents and motivated the Major Crimes Unit of the Anchorage Police Department to do everything right in their investigation. Feeling the heat as the police built their case, Kirby bolted for the Canadian border. But the cops were on to him. First they hunted him down; then the cops and a tenacious prosecutor began their long, bitter battle to convict him up against an equally tough defense lawyer, as well as the egomaniacal defendant himself. This shocking tale reached its climax in a controversial trial where for the first time an FBI profiler was allowed to testify and the controversial, pre-DNA science of allotyping was presented to a jury. But justice would not be served until after the psychopathic Kirby Anthoney took the stand in his own defense - and showed the world the monster he truly was.
MURDER IN THE FAMILY became an instant New York Times Bestseller when it was first released in 2000. Barer has updated the eBook version of this classic true crime tale of horror.

I found this book to be very well written with content not only of a horrific crime, but the psychology of the perpetrator. I was completely fascinated by the look into his mind and how it got that way. I was horrified by what had happened and how the authorities do their best to follow the law and get someone like this behind bars and away from innocent people. It is truly an in-depth look at this case from beginning to end in a very thoughtful, descriptive, and empathy for those effected the most. Burl Barer has earned a fan. There is only one thing I would change, and that whomever is proof reading to actually read it. There were several duplicate sentences, inaccurate punctuation, and spelling errors throughout. I had to re-read several passages to finally understand what was suppose to be there.Product details

Murder In The Family edition by Burl Barer Professional Technical eBooks Reviews
This is a very detailed account of a mystifyingly brutal act. However interesting you might find this book, the enormous number of spelling and grammatical errors, and name inconsistency made the flow of reading this book choppy and annoying. Author, I doubt that the print edition had these errors. Get yourself a proofreader, dammit.
Great book. Very well written book, yet hard to read in places. It is about a triple homicide in Alaska and the investigation that followed. It was done by a family member, Kirby Anthoney. This was a case where FBI profiling helped to catch Anthoney. It was very interesting to read how everything was analyzed. Again, great book.
Very well written, the beginning graphically described murder scene is guaranteed to keep you reading page after page. An, at times perhaps too lengthy and detailed trial for some readers, but in the end necessary for a full understanding of the American judicial process which bends over backwards to ensure the protection of the accused's rights. Never boring or tedious, a highly emotive story all the way through. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it as an above average read and not quickly forgotten. I look forward to other books from this author.
This is a painstakingly researched book. I think I was hoping for an emphasis on detective work, but that's covered in the first third handily. What follows is a sometimes numbing recitation of court proceedings by defense and prosecution. Comments by a Dr Hare on the psychopathic personality disorder are welcome, though. My take on it is, don't try to understand why, you don't think that way.
The author did a great job with this book. Very well written.
They gave detailed accounts of not only how the murderer was captured, but the whole process including how the authorities have changed and improved up to the crime.
The story was written in a way that was very interesting and tho it could have been very confusing.. They simplified it for the reader to understand.
This was a horrendous crime and hard to fathom how an other person could do this, not only to one being but three! Two of which were very young children.
I enjoyed this book and recommend it to those of you who are true crime buffs!
Thank you for the opportunity to read a great book!
A very hard book to read. The book is about three murders, a mother and two of her little girls ages 2 and 8, in Achorage Alaska. This book is exceptionally well written, the level of research the author Burl Barer did to give the account of this horrific crime is exceptional. Recommend if you are a true crime reader.
This was an extremely hard book to read. The brutal murder of a mother and her 2 children. And the cruel, insensitive person who did this. A monster. But, the tenacity of the law enforcement, the judicial system and the FBI profiler would not give up. What a testament to their determination for these 3 victims. I went through a variety of emotions, but I could not put this book down. The writing was superb, the language easy to understand and the book just grabbed you. I wanted to stop reading due to the nature of the book and the horrific murders, but I just could not. The care that the author put into recounting this horrific crime and its aftermath is stunning. I highly recommend this book for any true crime fan. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
